OVERKILL/THE YEARS OF DECAY/1989 MEGAFORCE RECORDS
Hey metal fam what it do? The Dark One coming at you again with another classic review. Today I review quite possibly one of the most definitive thrash albums of all time. New Jersey based Overkill has been a personal favorite of mine since “Feel The Fire” with their no nonsense approach to music. I’ve practically bought every album they have ever released with no disappointment to mention thereof. “Years Of Decay” is no exception to this comment, from the opening track you are sent on a joyride of anger, hate, and a bit of anarchy intertwined with crushing music to back it up. An honorable mention? Nah, the whole album is awesome, but I will say “I Hate” is my favortite song with E.vil N.ever D.ies as a close follow up. “Playing with Spiders/Skullcrusher” is a very Black Sabbath influenced track( even sings like Ozzy a little) thats about a good ten minutes of music you wouldnt want back. Bobby”Blitz” Ellworth’s vocals and lyrics make you feel the heat of the hate he exerts through these tracks supported by Bobby Gustafson/guitars D.D. Verni/bass and Sid Falck/Drums. “Years Of Decay” totally kicks your ass and has you wanting them to do it more, however seeing them live is another experience you must check out for yourself because words will never do it justice. 9.0/10
